August Updates

Hey neighbor!

Here’s a quick rundown of what’s happening at Trinity Community Commons, some great events you should put on your calendar, and a couple different ways to get involved.

Community Potlucks every Tuesday from 4-7

If you haven’t come by Trinity in a while, come join us for dinner this Tuesday! We couldn’t host this weekly potluck without fresh food from our neighbors and from The Nashville Food Project, expertise and a refreshing foot clinic from Open Table Nashville (no, not that OpenTable…), and mobile showers & hygiene kits from Shower the People

The most common response I get when I invite people to dinner at Trinity is this: “No thanks, I don’t want to take food from someone who needs it.” Friends - this meal is a potluck, not a soup kitchen, and there is more than enough for everyone. This meal is all about building meaningful and mutually supportive relationships between you and your neighbors.

You might not need a free meal, but you do need your neighbors. Breaking bread with your neighbor, especially those experiencing poverty, trauma, and living out of doors, is one of the best most powerful ways to build trusting, supportive, and loving communities. We all have incredible gifts to share with each other in community. And we’re all poor in different ways. The goal of our weekly meals, and really everything we do at Trinity, is to create opportunities for all of us to enter into authentic and life giving relationships with our neighbors. These are the kinds of relationships that affirm the worth and potential of all people.

How you can help: bring a tasty homemade dish to share, set up for dinner, serve plates, clean dishes, show up consistently, build loving relationships with neighbors who are different than you, & make a new best friend

Mark your calendars:

  • Tomorrow! 8/29: Hand cranked old fashioned Ice Cream from the Hales (vanilla, peach, and one mystery flavor!)

  • Tuesday, 9/26: Pop-up meal from Nashville’s tastiest underground chef duo, Tasty Bois Food Co.

Mini Farmers Market, 3:30-5:30 every Thursday thru October

Come pick up fresh local veggies, stay to catch up with your neighbors! Local soaps, pickles, teas, seedlings, breads, and more, every Thursday afternoon. Our CSA pick ups are winding down for the season. We’ll let you know when signups for next year’s CSA through Farmhouse Nashville open up. The money you spend at this market supports a few different things - the neighbors who bake / grow / make what you buy, supplies for future meals, markets, and activities at Trinity, neighbors in need, and other great local non-profits serving those most in need. Bottom line: everything you spend here goes right back into this neighborhood to support our neighbors who need it most!

One Last thing -

We literally couldn’t do any of this without you. Without partner organizations, volunteer neighbors, and financial supporters, sharing common space for the good of all people in this neighborhood wouldn’t be possible.

Next week I’ll share more about partnering with Trinity, hosting events, and what it’s going to take to restore the commons for the good of all people. It’s a lot, but I’ve got tons of reasons to be hopeful.

With love,
